I’ve been slipping back into bad habits recently. Eating food I know my body doesn’t like, not moving much, hiding away in my van. Overall, the complete opposite of what I should be doing.
So, time to reset my habits and get my ass moving. Hence Project Reset.
Today I had planned on getting up early and go for a walk. Well, it’s nearly 3pm and Ive only just gotten back from a 45 minute walk. Not the best start, but it is a start. I have a tendency to plan big, and fall far short of my goals. I’m relistening to Atomic Habits by James Clear, for the umpteenth time, in the hopes that I can pare back my ‘habit goals’ into extremely easy habits that I can build every day.
So, my biggest goal right now is to improve my health. After 6+ months of doing bugger all, even a short walk is exhausting. My first goal then is to go for a daily walk. To get myself to do this, I am going to go first thing in the morning.
My morning routine will start like this:
7am Alarm – wake up.
7.30am Alarm – get out of bed
Get dressed (including walking shoes/sandals)
Grab keys and water bottle
Leave van and start walking.

To make things even easier on myself, I’m going to fill up a water bottle before bed, and pull out clothes and leave them by my bed.
To make procrastination harder, I will put some boxes on my seat/sofa so that I can’t just flop onto it, I will do this as part of my bedtime routine.
I’m not setting a limit on how long the walk must be, just get dressed and leave the van. Once thats become a habit, I can build onto it. But to quote James Clear “you must standardise before you optimise”.
Diet-wise I’m focusing on eating primal/paleo/low carb for the time being. I don’t want to over stress my brain (the poor things seems to only be able to focus on one thing at a time) so I’m going to focus on adding one new habit at a time.
So, day 1 in the bag. I walked just under 2.5 miles (4km ish), which isn’t bad considering. My calf muscles definitely felt it, as there was quite a big hill in the middle of that. But I got some pretty photos, which I’ll add below.
Thanks for reading folks, what small actions can you take today to move towards your goals?
